A little history
This was my first time working with Red Cedar (here’s another board I made from this same lumber). The wood comes from a family friend’s land. I picked the lumber for this board because its figure is gorgeous and unusual, and I wanted to showcase the brilliant knots and swirls in the figure.
Cedar is a stable, lightweight wood. And it smells delightful.
Don’t worry about putting scratches or knife marks in it—these boards are meant for use.
I got the idea to make charcuterie boards from oddly shaped scraps last year and our family has put the initial prototype I made to good use ever since. Most of the charcuterie boards I make are big, so I decided to try making something a bit smaller and am really happy with how this turned out.
